Meet Jennie
Pellon: Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Jennie: I find inspiration many different places. For a lot of the things I make, it is an item I’d like to have, but don’t want to buy the plain black version at the store (like my stroller organizer, for example). Sometimes I see some fabric, and it seems to be begging to be made into something specific.
P: What does your creative process entail?
J: My creative process is kind of random. Sometimes I just cut into fabric and tweak until I get the results I want. Other times I plan things more carefully to get a specific result. I am definitely more hands on though, and not as much of a planner!
P: Why do you enjoy sewing/crafting/quilting?
J: I have been sewing, quilting, and creating since I was young; it is just part of who I am now. Even though I haven’t always been sewing avidly, I usually find some other creative pursuit to fill my time!
P: Do you create mainly for satisfaction, gifts, art or another reason?
J: I make different things for different reasons. I especially enjoy making things for my family because I find it a great way to show love. As I mentioned too, I like to create things with a specific purpose in mind, so that they fit a need I have. And I also create things for the business I run with my mom, Clover & Violet, where we sell patterns, and share tutorials and inspiration.
P: What tips or tricks learned through experience can you share?
J: I’m not very good at the tips and tricks department. I often find my methods are the hard ones, and perhaps if I was better at tips and tricks I’d have quicker luck myself! That said, don’t be afraid to try something new, it just might work!
P: When and why did you start sewing/quilting/crafting?
J: I started sewing when I was a little girl, with my mom and grandma. I made doll clothes, then clothes, and eventually made a quilt for my college dorm room. I then took a break from quilting and sewing, knit for a few years, and then went into business with my mom and have been behind the machine ever since!
P: What inspires you to start a project?
J: I’m usually inspired by the object I want to create/recreate in a pretty, patchwork or sewn way. A specific type of bag/purse/accessory, or maybe something for my home, or my child moving from the crib to toddler bed, regardless of the object, there is usually a specific reason I’m making it.
